Kawah Ijen Reopens for Visitors with New Safety Measures in Place - Sep 2024

Banyuwangi, East Java – After nearly two months of closure, the renowned Kawah Ijen Natural Tourism Park (TWA Kawah Ijen) is now open to the public. The reopening, effective from September 8, 2024, follows a closure initiated on July 12, 2024, to protect the area and ensure the safety of visitors.

The decision to reopen the park, located in Bondowoso and Banyuwangi regencies, was made by the East Java Conservation Authority to boost tourism, educate the public, and provide economic benefits to the local communities surrounding the park. Visitors can now return to enjoy its natural beauty and engage in activities such as hiking and nature research.

Safety Protocols and Requirements

In light of the reopening, several new protocols have been introduced to ensure visitor safety and preserve the natural environment. Visitors are required to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), including wearing basic safety equipment such as flashlights, masks, and cold-resistant clothing. Additionally, all health protocols remain in effect to protect both visitors and local staff from potential health risks.

Online Ticketing System Introduced

In an effort to streamline the visitor experience and avoid crowding, tickets must be purchased online through the official website (www.tiket.bbksdajatim.org). This move aims to enhance the efficiency of visitor management and ensure a safe, organized flow of tourists in and out of the park.

The reopening of Kawah Ijen is expected to reinvigorate tourism in East Java, offering visitors a unique opportunity to witness the famous blue flames of the crater and contribute to the economic recovery of the surrounding communities.
