Banyuwangi, East Java – The international cycling sensation, Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen (ITdBI) 2024, is set to be the biggest yet. Scheduled for July 22-25, this year's event will see a record number of 20 teams from both domestic and international circuits compete over a grueling 632-kilometer course.

Banyuwangi Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani, expressed her excitement about the event's return as a UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) sanctioned race. "Sports tourism is a key focus for us as we strive to attract more visitors to Banyuwangi and showcase our region as a premier cycling destination in Indonesia. This event is a significant step towards boosting our local economy and improving the lives of our people," she stated.

The intense competition for a spot in this year's ITdBI is a testament to its growing global appeal. Alfin Kurniawan, the acting head of Banyuwangi's Youth and Sports Department, revealed that while 42 teams expressed interest, only 20 were selected to participate.

Of the 20 teams, 14 represent eight different countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Philippines, Japan, Korea Selatan, Belanda, and Mongolia. Notable international teams participating are Trengganu Cycling Team, Rojaai Insurance, St George Continental Team, and 7Eleven Philippines Continental Cycling Team. The remaining six teams are from Indonesia, such as KGB, Nusantara, and the Indonesian National Team.

This year's race offers a challenging and diverse route, totaling 632 kilometers and divided into four stages. Riders will traverse various terrains, from coastal roads to the iconic climb of Mount Ijen.
